A promising athlete even when a young boy, Stanley Bostrom was the victim of polio when in grade school, but he never gave up his interest in sports. During his last two years at Emporia high school, he served as trainer for the football and basketball teams, and was a familiar figure at all sporting events here. He was graduated from high school in May 1948, and worked in Wichita for some time after that. He had been sick for about six months.
