Description	:	Stanley Gordon Nichols was born on a farm near Fairmont, Neb., April 20, 1909. He passed away at his home in Fairmont Monday, December 30, 1974, at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 30 days. He was a son of Clarence B. Nichols and Nellie Lashbrook Nichols, members of pioneer Fillmore county families. They preceded him in death. He passed away at his home in Fairmont Monday, December 30, 1974, at the age of 65 years, 8 months and 30 days. He was a son of Clarence B. Nichols and Nellie Lashbrook Nichols, members of pioneer Fillmore county families. They preceded him in death. Gordon lived all of his life in the Fairmont community, attending rural school at District 18 and Fairmont high school. In 1933 he purchased and operated the Nichols Gas Transport business which he operated successfully for several years. He was married to Ruby Christiancy April 12, 1935. To this union were torn two sons, Stanley Eugene and John Thomas. Prior to World War Ii, he established the Phillips 66 service station in Fairmont. He continued to own and operate the business until his death. For several years he provided a hall for recreational use by the young people of the community. The hall was used for roller skating, dancing and basketball by the young people of the community and surrounding communities. Gordon served on the Fairmont city council many years and also was a member of the Fairmont Volunteer Fire department 25 years. His greatest concern was serving his community and working for the best interests of his city. He was never too busy to lend a helping hand night or day to friends or strangers in his place of business or in the community. The deceased was a member of Hesperian I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 43 of Fairmont for many years. He was affiliated with the Fairmont Methodist church. Survivors include his wife, Ruby; sons , Stanley Eugene of Rowland Height, Cal., and John Thomas of LaPuente, Cal.; daughter-in-law, Jacqueline )Mrs. Stanley Nichols); two grandchildren, Lisa and Peter; a brother, Donald Nichols of York; a sister, Marian (Mrs. S.E. Doss ) of Gentry, Ark. Also preceding him in death in addition to his parents, were three brothers, Herbert, Francis and Wilbur. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 2, 1975 at 2 p.m. in the Fairmont Community Church, Fairmont, Neb., with Rev. Jay Schmidt officiating. Mrs. Jerry Galusha was organist and accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Federal Bridgman, who sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "in the Garden." Pallbearers were Edmond Ackerman, Lewis Harling, Raymond Hall, Kenneth Moore, W.C. Nelson and Francis Schepers. Interment was in the Fairmont cemetery.
