He passed away in Knoxville due to a massive heart attack." ----- Stanley's parents were: Bert Millard Selfe (1907 - 1963) Eula Beatrice Kiser Selfe (1900 - 1991) Chehalis Bee Nugget (WA) Friday, February 19, 1937 "Swofford valley once again is enjoying a good rain. ... Mrs. Bert Self has returned from the Chehalis hospital with a new baby boy, who has been named Stanley Lewis." ----- Stanley had an older brother, Stuart Stratton. He & his brother attended school at Mossyrock, Lewis Co, WA where they graduated from high school. Stanley then volunteered for four years of service in the Air Force. When he returned home he attended college at Centralia, after which he worked for Grange Supply in Chehalis. Leaving this job he went to Virginia to visit relatives and friends. From there he went to Tennessee where he found a job with a construction firm & later a trucking company. ----- On April 24/25, 1940, Bert M. & Eula B., ages 32 & 39, owned a home on Swofford Road in Sulphur Creek, Lewis Co, WA. Bert worked logging wood. They had two sons, Stuart, age 4, & Stanley, 3. Eula's uncle, Sam J. Kiser, age 62, lived with them. ----- Stanley grew up in Lewis Co, WA. Newspaper articles have helped provide a brief glimpse into his life. They were Guy Mills, Stanley Self, Larry Sherman, Bill Nelson, Lester White and Jack Swain." ----- Centralia Daily Chronicle Tuesday, September 27, 1955 "A3C Stanley Self is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Self, this week. He will report back to Park Air Force Base in California, Monday. He expects to be sent to a radio and radar school in Mississippi soon." This would have been at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. ----- Centralia Daily Chronicle Wednesday, October 3, 1956 "Mr. and Mrs. Bert Selfe have received word from their son Stanley that he has been transferred to Largo, Fla. Stanley is in the Air Force." ----- Centralia Daily Chronicle Monday, December 31, 1956 Onalaska "Mr. and Mrs. Bert Selfe and sons, Stanley and Stuart, and Bob Hayes spent Christmas at the home of Mrs. Selfe's sister, Mrs. Wallace Osborne, at Ajlune." "Stanley Selfe, from the Air Force base at Miami, Fla., is home on leave for the holidays to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Selfe. Selfe." ----- Centralia Daily Chronicle Friday, November 27, 1970 ACCIDENTS REPORTED (One of which included Stanley) Troopers said an automobile driven by Stanley L. Selfe, 33, Mossyrock, and a pickup truck operated by Melvin J. McPherson, 32, Bremerton, collided at 10:20 p.m. on the freeway 11 miles south of Chehalis, causing an estimated $1.500 in vehicle damages." ----- Stanley died on March 29, 1984. Wednesday, April 11, 1983 "STANLEY L. SELFE Knoxville, Tenn. - Stanley L. Selfe, 47, a resident of Knoxville for the past 13 years and formerly of the Mossyrock area, died at his home Thursday, March 29, 1984. Born in Chehalis on Jan. 29, 1937, Selfe grew up in Swofford Valley. Soon after graduating from Mossyrock High School in 1955, he joined the Air Force and served four years. Selfe belonged to the Richland Valley Church of the brethren and was preceded in death by his father, Bert Selfe, in July 1963. Survivors include his mother, Eula Selfe of Onalaska; brother, Stuart Selfe of Onalaska; an aunt Berlin Osborne of Mossyrock, and five uncles including Ralph Selfe of Mossyrock. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Richland Valley Church of the brethren, Ajlune, with the Rev. Paul Buntain officiating. Remembrances may be donations to a favorite charity."
