Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 (today), at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Pocahontas. The Celebrants will be Monsignor Michael Sernett and Father Merle Kollasch. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery at Pocahontas. The Lector for the Mass will be Marilyn Jackson. Stella is survived by daughter, Joan Strachan, Rockford, IL; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert Sernett, Pocahontas. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Cecil, in 1945. Mrs. Sawyer was born on June 23, 1905, at Pocahontas, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Langer) Sernett. She spent her younger years in the Pocahontas community where she attended country school and graduated from Rolfe High School in Rolfe. In 1934, she married Cecil Sawyer in Logan. Following their marriage the family lived in Missouri Valley, and later moved to Carroll where her husband was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. Following her husband's death she continued to make her home in Carroll where she was a domestic employee at the former Burke Hotel, Motel 71-31, and several homes in the community.
