The service will be at 2 p.m. April 12 at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. Michael Druhl officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery east of Douds. Open visitation begins at noon April 11 at the funeral home with the family present from 7 to 8 that night. Mrs. Bennett was born Nov. 5, 1902, at Kilbourne, the daughter of John Hendrik and Bertha Slutts Oosthoek. She married Lester Bennett on April 19, 1922, in Ottumwa. He died Jan. 21, 1980. They farmed near Douds, retired to town in 1975, and following her husband's death, she moved to an apartment in Twin City Manor, where she lived until entering the nursing home in 1990. She was active in the Mount Moriah and Douds Ladies Aide, United Methodist Women, and was a charter member of John Hyson Reneker Unit No. 494, American Legion Auxiliary, and Douds Temple No. 104, Pythian Sisters. Surviving are a son, Earl of Mattoon, Ill.; a daughter, Marie Murphy of Casper, Wyo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A sister, May Moore, and two brothers, Harvey and Martin Oosthoek, preceded her in death.
