Description	:	Stratford Courier June 19, 1902 Stephen Griffin Crane was born in New York, February 27, 1819, being at the time of his death 83 years, 4 months and 19 days, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Parker, Friday, June 13, 1902 at 2 p.m., after a painful illness of three weeks. Read More	Stratford Courier June 19, 1902 Stephen Griffin Crane was born in New York, February 27, 1819, being at the time of his death 83 years, 4 months and 19 days, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Parker, Friday, June 13, 1902 at 2 p.m., after a painful illness of three weeks. The greater part or his early life was passed in the state of Washington afterward moving to Iowa and settled in Hardin county in 1850. He was one of the early pioneers of that county. In 1858 he was married to Hellen M. Coleman. Five children were born to them, four of whom are living: Mrs. Alice Parker of this city, Earl Crane of Rockwell City and Minnie and Roy Crane who reside at Mason City. In 1881 the family came to Hamilton Co., their home being one of the first houses built in Stratford He was a man well known to the early settlers here, having been engaged in numerous kinds of business here. In 1892 he united with the Christian church and for many years has been a firm believer and a faithful follower in the footsteps of the Apostles teachings. He was familiar with the bible, the main trend of his conversation was on points of scripture and his mind seemed to dwell on spiritual things. His later life was devoted entirely to religion, steadfast in his faith of eternal life, he seemed not to fear, but rather to welcome death. The funeral was held at the M. E. church Sunday at 11 o'clock, Rev.E.A. Hoelscher officiating. Music was furnished by a choir. The remains were laid to rest in the Oakwood cemetery.
