The Lead Daily Call newspaper of April 25, 1918 reported, "The news of the passing of an old timer came yesterday with the announcement of the death of Steve Block, which occurred at his ranch near Buckhorn, Wyoming. He was well known in Lead, especially among those who, in the past had been in the habit of visiting in the upper Spearfish canyon. For years he occupied the place in the canyon, where the Norwegian Kid now lives and operated a truck garden there. He got into the cattle business and his herd increased until he was obliged to move to a more open stock region. Twelve years ago he established himself on the Wyoming ranch...Deceased was 68 years old. His death came suddenly Tuesday night and is supposed to have been the result of heart failure. The remains will be brought to the Rounsevell undertaking parlors in Lead tomorrow...He is survived by his wife and three stepchildren: David Williams, Mrs Myrtle Lamb and George Williams." Lead Daily Call, April 29, 1918 - "The funeral services for the late Stephen Block were held at the Rounsevell undertaking rooms Sunday afternoon, Rev. W.E. Kunz officiating. Interment was in South Lead cemetery."
