Mace was born in Muskingdom county, Ohio, July 9, 1849, and died at her home in this city at 9 o'clock p.m., February 23, 1900; aged 50 years, 7 months and 14 days. With her parents she moved to Wisconsin in 1854 and from there came to Montezuma in the fall of 1860, where she has since resided till her death. She was married to Herbert E. Rose in this city Jan'y 24, 1877, and to this union was born five children--two sons and three daughters--all of whom are at home, and with the husband are left to mourn the loss of a devoted wife and loving mother. Six years ago, during the pastorate of Rev. J.W. Lambert, she joined the Methodist church. She expressed her faith in Christ, cherished the christian hope of heaven and desired that the members of her home would so live as to meet her in heaven. May God grant the mother's prayer for her loved ones. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon from the family residence at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W.L. Clarke of the Presbyterian church, the text being: "Seek Him That Turneth the Shadow of Death Into Morning--The Lord is His Name."--Amos, 5-8. The remains were buried in Masonic and Odd Fellows' cemetery, a large assembly of relatives and sympathizing friends being present to pay their respects to the memory of the departed and to comfort the sadly bereaved family. Brooklyn Chronicle (Brooklyn, Iowa) 9 March 1900 Mrs. Herbert Rose of Montezuma, died at her home Feb. 23d, aged 50 years. She had been a resident of this county for 40 years and leaves a husband and five children to mourn her loss.
