Father Murphy officiating, were Mr. James McGowen, two sons and daughter, Mrs. George McGowen and Mr. and Mrs. John Kelly from Greeley Center, Mrs. Mohler of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. McCarthy of Ponca, Mr. Hugh Kelly of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. A. Gibb of Staplehurst, Miss Nellie Kelly of Peru, Mr. Wm. Havey of Rosendale, Wis., and several relatives from Exeter and Friend, Nebr. Deceased was born in Seward County, Nebr., and died on her 34th birthday anniversary. "Susie," as she was called, had lived near Ulysses since a little girl and endeared herself to all by her admirable qualities both of mind and heart. She was a graduate of the Ulysses high school class of 1897, and a favorite with pupils and teachers who loved her sweet, cheerful and kindly ways. The pastor paid a fitting tribute to her many excellent qualities and spoke tenderly of the beautiful christian life of Susie, who was a zealous worker in the church at all times, lending a cheerful and willing hand at the various church functions. The writer, with many other friends, could not feel that she would be called so soon but as the weeks passed with but little improvement she grew weaker until the end came, and thus her frail bark went out on the river of life to join the sea of eternity.
