Description	:	Susan F. Marrinan, 63, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Vermillion, South Dakota passed away Tuesday March 13, 2012 at North Collier Hospital in Naples, Florida. Her parents, Ada Myrtle Abild and Henry Lyal Abild, her sister, Myrtle Ann Abild, of Vermillion, South Dakota, and brother-in-law, Joseph Roselle, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, precede Susan in death. Two daughters, Molly Marrinan and Cara Marrinan (husband, Keith Naps), both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, survive her. Her parents, Ada Myrtle Abild and Henry Lyal Abild, her sister, Myrtle Ann Abild, of Vermillion, South Dakota, and brother-in-law, Joseph Roselle, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, precede Susan in death. Two daughters, Molly Marrinan and Cara Marrinan (husband, Keith Naps), both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, survive her. Sister, Lois Roselle, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and brother, Orin Abild (wife, Lillian Abild), of Vermillion, South Dakota, also survive Susan. Survivors also include: nephews Brad Roselle (wife, Susan Roselle), Chris Roselle (wife, Christi Roselle), Timothy Roselle, Dean Abild, Jeffrey Abild, Greg Abild; niece, Tracy Wells (husband, Larry Wells); and cousin, Arden Abild. Born on May 29, 1948, in Vermillion, South Dakota, Susan spent her childhood exploring the great outdoors on her parents' farm. As a teenager at Wakonda High School, she excelled in academics and proved to be a talented musician mastering both the flute and the piano. After high school, Susan left home to enroll at the University of Minnesota where she graduated magna cum laude with bachelor degrees in International Relations and German in 1969. Thereafter, she received her Juris Doctor at the University of Minnesota law school in 1973. Very quickly, Susan proved to be a remarkable and formidable attorney and made a profound impact in her earlier work at Prudential, Ecolab, Carlson Companies, and HB Fuller. The apex of her career was spent at Snap-on, Inc. in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she worked as General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer from 1991 until 2008. Susan took great pride in raising her daughters. Above all else, Susan stressed to Molly and Cara the importance of education and of being well rounded. She often traveled with her daughters and exposed them to different cultures and varied ways of living. She also emphasized languages and the arts and took Italian, photography, and pottery classes together with her children. Susan was a compassionate and supportive mother, but a stern disciplinarian when necessary. When grades did not reflect potential or when hormonal teenagers balked at chores, Susan was quick to relegate her daughters to their rooms for quiet reflection. Susan leaves behind daughters who are grateful for their mother's sacrifices, resolute will, nurturing nature, and steadfast love. Susan also adored spending time with her extended family. She loved traveling with her sister and her nephews' families for holidays and family reunions. Whether ski trips to Colorado or Minnesota, or trips abroad, Susan was always at home when surrounded by family. A prankster force to be reckoned with, Susan enjoyed ruffling the feathers of co-workers and family members, even once convincing her daughter that the CEO of blockbuster was on the phone to talk about late return charges. When dear family friends, the Lindmarks, unpacked after their move from Coon Rapids to Andover, MN, they found several items that they were not aware they possessed including an unsavory shot glass, a bronze eagle statue, and pink flamingo law ornaments. Upon reflection of the day's events, Dick and Mary Lindmark quickly realized that consummate joker Susan Marrinan had assisted in the packing up of their old home. Of the utmost significance to Susan was her profound faith in God and living a life that reflected her Christian values. She gave to those in need, often volunteered at homeless shelters, and she cared for her dogs and longtime companions. She is joined in death by her canine companion of 14 years, Picasso, preceded in death by Rembrandt, and survived by Pablo, who is now enjoying life in the twin cities. For out of town funeral attendees, the Marrinan family has arranged for bereavement rates at Holiday Inn Express in Vermillion. Please call (605) 624-7600 to make reservations. There will be a reception being held at the University of South Dakota (Vermillion) in Muenster University Center - Room #216. It is located at the intersection of Cherry Street and North University after the committal service on Tuesday. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the American Heart Association and Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 19, 2012 at Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Kober Funeral Home in Vermillion with Rev. Devon Davoux officiating. Burial will be at Bluff View Cemetery following the service on Tuesday.
