Description	:	Susanna Garner was born July 12, 1829, at Westboro, Ohio. Her father was a pioneer of Ohio and she learned when a girl to face the hardships of pioneer life. She was a birthright member of the friends church and was educated in a Friends school, receiving a better education than most of the young people of her day and surroundings. She was married in 1850 to Asa B. Read More	Susanna Garner was born July 12, 1829, at Westboro, Ohio. Her father was a pioneer of Ohio and she learned when a girl to face the hardships of pioneer life. She was a birthright member of the friends church and was educated in a Friends school, receiving a better education than most of the young people of her day and surroundings. She was married in 1850 to Asa B. Greene and a few years later they followed the tide of emigration on to Indiana where they lived until 1878 when they spent two years in northern Alabama, returning to Indiana and them coming to Greenville in 1886. She was always a strong Christian character, a faithful bible student and a leader among her associates. Whenever her lot brought her to a community where there was no church she at once started a Sunday school and she thus organized at least six Sunday schools which later developed into church organizations. She had a practical knowledge of medicine and nursing and was never too tired or too busy, nor the night to dark or stormy for her to go where she was needed. Hers was a long and useful life full of many good deeds. She went to the mansion prepared for her Sabbath evening after a beautiful Sabbath day, March 10, 1918, being 88 years, 7 months and 29 days of age. She leaves five children, John R. of Canon City, Colo., Mrs. F. W. Sprague, of Des Moines, Mrs. E. E. Strawn, of Des Moines, Mrs. George Gilbert of Lindsay, Cal., and Warren of Greenville. Mrs. Susan Greene, for many years a resident of Clay county, passed away on Sunday evening, March 10, 1918 in Des Moines at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frank Sprague. Mrs. Green was in her 87th year and her death was due to infirmities incidental to old age. The remains were brought to her old home at Greenville and funeral services conducted by Rev. Waldo Reece here held at 10 o'clock this morning from the Friends church. Burial was made in Liberty cemetery. Mrs. Greene was the mother of Mrs. Lizzie Newton, Gilbert of Whittier, Cal. Mrs. E. E. Strawn and Mrs. Frank Sprague of Des Moines, all former residents of this city and of D. W. Greene of Greeneville. She is also an aunt of Elmer Greene of this vicinity.
