OVERMAN, 75, PIONEER RESIDENT Mrs. Susan Jane Overman, 75, pioneer resident of this vicinity, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Overman. Her death was due to infirmities of age and followed five years of failing health. For the last three months she had been confined to her bed. Susan Jane Brenton, daughter of James and Mary Brenton, was born August 11, 1856, to miles south of Grant. She grew to womanhood in the Grant neighborhood and with the exception of years spent in Nebraska, she has lived her entire life in Montgomery County. She was married August 22, 1879 to Asa Overman and they began housekeeping on what is now the Jones farm at the north edge of Villisca. As a long woman, Mrs. Overman joined the Grant Methodist Church. Having no near relatives, Mrs. Overman has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Milton Overman, Mr. Overman being a relative of her husband. Mrs. Overman is survived by one sister, Mrs. John Pethoud of Beatrice, Nebraska and by several nieces and nephews and more distant relatives. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the R. C. Pitman residence where the body was taken Sunday morning, and the Rev. Martin H. Keast, Methodist minister, conducted the rites. Singing for the service was by Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Davie, with Helen Bunker accompanying. Pall bearers were Milton Overman, Sam Wilkey, John Taylor, James English, Oliver Brenton, and T. G. Brenton. Burial was made in the Villisca Cemetery.
