Sanburn wed -- Oct 1912 Chet Cummings ------------------ Susie Newsam, daughter of George and Elizabeth Newsam, was born in the North Page vicinity November 29, 1857, and died March 29, 1944, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Roy Mahrenholz, in Council Bluffs, at the age of 86 years and 4 months, following a stroke on March 25. She received her education in the North Page school and went to normal school in Clarinda and College Springs after which she taught school for several years. November 21, 1878, she was married to Oscar Bagley and they established their home near Superior, Nebr., then returned after five years to Iowa where she resided in or near Villisca the remainder of her life. To this union one daughter, Merle, was born. Her husband died August 7, 1897, leaving her on their 160-acre farm near Nodaway. After several years she married Chet Cummings in October, 1912, and he passed away in 1937. Mrs Cummings was brought up in the North Page United Presbyterian church and prided herself in having read her Bible through seven times. She was a friend and neighbor to everyone and took great pleasure in doing something to please others. She was quiet, patient, and never complained, and had spent the last seven winters with her daughter. All that loving hands could do was of no avail. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs Roy Mahrenholz, five grandchildren, Dale and Leo Springer of Los Angeles, Calif, Mrs Glenna Achtor of Muscatine, Iowa, Mrs Irene Hagglund of Red Oak, Iowa, and R.C. Mahrenholz, serving in the armed forces in England; two great granddaughters, La Vonne and Sharron Sue Springer of Los Angeles, Calif; two sisters, Mrs Inez Glassco of Beelda, Minn, and Mrs Ella Fisher; many other relatives and a host of friends. Two brothers, Emmett and Sherman, preceded her in death. Rev E.M. Beuhler of Villisca was the minister. Pallbearers were J.L Wheeler, Fred L. Fisher, Leonard Posten, Clifford English, H.C. Wlliams and George Helberg. The singing was by Cecil Weaver of Villisca and Mrs Eva Hicks. Mrs Luella Thomas and Mary Rosalyn Fisher took care of the flowers. Interment was in the family lot in North Page cemetery. Relatives from a distance were Mr and Mrs Roy Mahrenholz of Council Bluffs, Dale and Leo Springer of Los Angeles, Calif, Mr and Mrs Everett Achtor of Muscatine , Mrs Irene Hagglund of Red Oak and Mr and Mrs George Quimby of Helena, Mo.
