Description	:	Sylvia (Adams) Hulce (85) was born on May 6, 1936 to Robert and Lillian (Swanson) Adams on a farm near Akron, Iowa. She was the eldest of two children and began her education at the Sayles Country School, a few miles from the farm. Her family moved to Akron, IA where she graduated from Akron High School in 1954. Read More	Sylvia (Adams) Hulce (85) was born on May 6, 1936 to Robert and Lillian (Swanson) Adams on a farm near Akron, Iowa. She was the eldest of two children and began her education at the Sayles Country School, a few miles from the farm. Her family moved to Akron, IA where she graduated from Akron High School in 1954. In High School she participated in marching band, basketball, Glee Club, Mixed Chorus and was voted Homecoming Queen. She went on to the University of South Dakota where she joined the Pi Beta Phi sorority, worked as a lifeguard, and graduated with a BS in Elementary Education. Sylvia taught school for six years in Westfield, Iowa; Medford, Oregon and Harrisburg, South Dakota. She left teaching to raise four children with James Hulce, but later returned to the workforce as an employee at the IRS until she retired. Sylvia often referred to herself as a tumbleweed because she had lived in so many different places in the United States, as well as a year in France. She enjoyed genealogy, playing the piano (self-taught), crocheting, quilting, playing bridge, and watching movies. Although Sylvia was diagnosed with end-stage cancer and passed away nine days after diagnosis, she had been active and feeling well during most of the time the cancer had been ravaging in her body. Thankfully, her suffering period was very brief. Sylvia is survived by her four children: Jessica Cronin, Rebecca Johnson, Troy Hulce, and Nathan Hulce, as well as ten grandchildren and one great- grandchild. Sylvia's ashes will be spread over her grave in Riverside Cemetery in a small celebration of life family gathering on October 16, 2021.
