Prayer service: Monday at 7 p.m., with visitation 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Sylvia died Feb. 18, 2011, at Prince of Peace Care Center. Sylvia Ofstedal, daughter of Albert and Mabel (Strand) Ofstedal, was born Sept. 6, 1920, on the family homestead southwest of Ellendale in Palmyra Township, Brown County, S.D. She grew up and attended country school. In 1940, she graduated from Ellendale Normal and Industrial College. She then taught for one year at Flakoll Country School south of Forbes. She was united in marriage to Clifford Durheim on Aug. 18, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minn. They made their home in the Ellendale area and in 1951, they purchased a farm ten miles east of Leola. In 1967, they moved to Palmyra Township and farmed. In 1973, they moved onto her parents homestead and farmed there until Clifford's death in June 1993. She remained on the farm until July 2003, when she moved to Evergreen Place. In 2005, she entered Prince of Peace Care Center. Sylvia enjoyed traveling the world with her family. Her favorite pastimes were sewing and quilting. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and a past member of the Brown County Election Board and Aurdal Cemetery Committee. She had been the treasurer for many years of Palmyra Township and a founder and leader of the Willing Workers 4-H Club. Survivors include four sons, Dennis (Sue) Durheim, Joel (Cay) Durheim and Bruce (Lynette) Durheim, all of Ellendale, and Brent (Lisa Groth) Durheim of Hopedale, Ill.; three daughters, Linda (Leroy) Krage of Aberdeen, Karen (Ken) Daly of Columbia and Twyla (Dick) Young of Ellendale; two sisters, Marion Matson of Vacaville, Calif., and Ruth Swedlund of Custer; one brother, Raymond (Sylvia) Ofstedal of Brookings; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
