Interment was in the Masonic--IOOF Cemetery under direction of the Steffy Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Harold Lofgreen, Alvin Foster, Milo Lezer, Harry Duffus, Richard Mitchell and Harold Duffus. Tassie, youngest daughter of Elizabeth and Thomas Johnston, was born on a farm near Deep River, Sept. 9, 1896, and died at her home in Montezuma, Oct. 10, at 66 years of age. When she was a small child, she moved with her family to Montezuma, where she attended the local school and graduated with the Class of 1916. She taught for several terms in the rural schools. In her youth, she joined the Methodist church and was a faithful member as long as her health permitted. On Oct. 25, 1923, she was united in marriage with Harlan Ferneau, and to this union, two sons were born. Since 1941, she has been afflicted with poor health, after several operations at the University Hospital in Iowa City, she returned home where she has born her suffering with outstanding patience. Her six grandsons have brought happiness and joy to lighten her suffering. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Marvin and Melvin; six grandsons, two sisters, Abbie Carmichiachel, and Clara Hicks, other relatives and many friends.
