Lead Daily Call newspaper, Monday, July 31, 1933, page 1: DEATH CLAIMS OLD TIMER HERE Tillia Hirbour Succumbs Yesterday To Illness of Many Years Tillis Hirbour, 74, a resident of Lead and this section of the Black Hills for the past 50 years, died at his home at 610 Sawyer street at 11:20 o'clock yesterday morning after a long illness Mr. Hirbour has been an invalid for the last ten years. Born in Maryville, Canada, April 10, 1859, he spent his boyhood there, then as a young man of about 20 he went to Butte, Mont., coming to the Black Hills from there shortly afterward. In the early days here he was employed as engineer on the old Black Hills and Ft. Pierre railroad. Later on he was employed as a hoist engineer for the Homestake mining company in Lead, a post he filled until illness forced his retirement some years ago. He was married in Lead in 1905 to Mrs. Emma Manseau. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma Hirbour, a brother, Omer Hirbour, of Canada, and the following stepchildren: Mrs. George Bernard of Deadwood, Orman Manseau, of Lead, Mrs. Thomas Burchell, of Lead, Lt. Bernard E. Manseau, of San Diego, Cal.; and Mrs. Lee Ormanson, of Tujunga, Cal. He was a Homestake veteran. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 o'clock tomorrow morning at St. Patrick's Catholic church, with burial in Calvary cemetery in South Lead. The following friends will act as pall bearers: Arthur Cooper, Harry Esling, Jack Becanon, Henry Lavier, O.J. Mochon and Casimir Gaughen. Lead Daily Call, Wednesday, August 2, 1933, page 1: HIRBOUR RITES HELD YESTERDAY Requiem high mass was held at St. Patrick's church yesterday morning at 9:30 o'clock for the late lTillis Hirbour, well-known Lead resident. The Rev. W.J. Boat was celebrant, and the sermon was preached by the Rev. M.S. Roach. Miss Helen Sarich sang "Ave Maria" and Mrs. Ray Carroll sang "Face to Face." Miss Rena de Martini played the organ accompaniment. Many friends were present to pay last respects, and there were a number of beautiful floral offerings. Interment was made in Calvary cemetery in South Lead with the following escort: Arthur Cooper, Harry Esling, Jack Becanon, Henry Lavier, O.J. Mochon and Casimir Gaughen.
