Survivors besides his parents are a sister, Carole, and two half-sisters, Beverly and Billie, all of Billings; his grandparents, Mrs. Rosie Clark and Mr. and Mrs. Thorvalk Aalgaard. Terry was born Sept. 10, 1961, in Deer Ledge. He had resided in Miles City for the past three years before going to Billings in June. Following is the Billings Gazette account of the tragedy: Muddy water in a stagnant slough near the Old South bridge south of Billings took the life of a 6-year-old who could not swim Thursday afternoon. Terry Anderson was last seen by companions about 2:30 p.m.; wading near the edge of the slough. He and friend had gone to the slough to "hunt frog and tadpoles" it was reported. The youngster was pronounced dead at Deaconess hospital at 4 p.m. after extensive efforts to revive him. Montana Highway Patrol Capt. S. W. Hancock, the first officer to arrive at the scene ripped off his clothing jumped into the slough, and found the body. "I gave him artificial respiration for about 15 minutes," Hancock said, "but got no response." It was estimated that youngster had been in the water nearly half an hour before being found. The Billings fire dept. first aid squad arrived about 1:15 p.m. and administered oxygen for 40 minutes, at the slough and on the way to the hospital. Terry and a cousin Richard Braaten 9, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benton Braaten, also of 3712 State Ave., and another friend Terry Earnest, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Earnest of 8 Adams St., left home on their bicycles early in the afternoon. Mr, Braaten said they intended to go to the South Park but changed their minds and rode to the slough. "Richard and Terry Earnest were in a little deeper water swimming," Mrs. Braaten said. "Terry couldn't swim and must have walked out farther than he should," she said. The other boys missed Terry, she added and then saw "one leg come out of the water," They and two other swimmers, whose names were unknown, were unable to find him in the murky water. Richard then raced home on his bicycle to tell his mother what had happened. Police were called shortly after or 3 p.m. and the first aid squad and sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the slough. Capt. Hancock, hearing radio messages was the first to arrive and plunged into the water after the youngsters there told him where Terry was last seen. He said the body was in water about five feet deep. Hancock slashed his left foot on broken glass at the bottom of the slough. The youngster's parents were both at the slough by the tie resuscitation equipment was in operation. Anderson stayed close by the firemen as they tried to revive the boy.
