ROBERSON, RAISED IN GREENSBORO TOWNSHIP, DIES AT HAYWARD, CALIFORNIA Intelligence was received Tuesday at this office of the death of T. H. Roberson from hemorrhage of the brain at his home in Hayward, Calif., Wednesday night, July 26. Before retiring for the night he had played the piano and seemed in his usual good health. He did not answer the call of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Alders, next morning for breakfast. She opened the door to find Roberson lying on his face across the threshold dead. Owing to illness in the house, his wife Betty having been ill for several days, Roberson, who was a carpenter and builder, slept that night in his workshop in order to have quiet. An inquest revealed that Roberson had died of hemorrhage of the brain. Mr. Roberson was raised in Greensboro township, having been born October 11, 1863, at Florence, Guilford county N. C., coming to Henry county with Mr. and Mrs. Obed M. Dixon and Harper Sullivan in the fall of 1865. He was a nephew of Mrs. Dixon, and in her home Roberson resided until he became of age. When about 25 years of age he went to a town in Arkansas. While employed there as a police officer he shot and killed a man who was resisting arrest. Roberson was arrested and languished in jail for two years before released. Following his acquittal he went to California. From a picture in our possession, sent to the Banner by the widow, we judge that Mr. Roberson was a fine looking man. He was highly respected in his home town, and while a resident of Henry county made many friends, all of whom no doubt will regret to hear of his death. Mr. Roberson had been a constant reader of the Banner for years, and thus kept in touch with the doings of his former home. Hayward (CA) Review, July 28, 1911 T. H. Roberson, a contractor and builder who resides on Hayward Hill, was found dead on the floor of his workshop at an early hour yesterday morning by his sister-in-law, Mrs. L. M. Alders. Mr. Roberson had for the past three weeks been attending constantly at the bedside of his wife who is suffering from nervous prostration brought on by the death of her brother last March. Wednesday night Mr. Roberson complained of feeling weak and tired, although otherwise he seemed to be in good spirits and decided to spend the night in his workshop in the rear of his residence and try and get some sleep. His sister-in-law, Mrs. Alders, went out about 6:30 a.m. in the morning to call him for breakfast, and not receiving any response to her repeated knocking, opened the door to find her brother-in-law lying face down on the floor of the room near the door. Life was extinct and he had evidently tried to reach the door to call assistance before he was overcome. Mrs. Alders called for help and Mrs. Roberson, in spite of her enfeebled condition, rose from her bed and rushed to his assistance. The shock of finding her husband dead was so great that she now lies at the point of death. Mr. Roberson was a native of Indiana[sic], about sixty years of age and had lived in Hayward for about six years. Besides his wife he leaves an aged father and mother, who resided with him, prostrated by the sudden shock. Deputy Coroner Sorensen was summoned and brought the remains to his undertaking parlors. Coroner Tisdale was notified and set the inquest for Monday, August 7th, at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements for the funeral had not been made up to the time of going to press. The Hayward (CA) Twice A Week Review, Tuesday, August 11, 1911 HEMORRHAGE OF BRAIN WAS CAUSE OF DEATH Coronor Tisdale with a jury held an inquest Monday morning at Sorenson Bros. parlors, to ascertain the cause of death of the late T. H. Roberson who was found dead at his home on Hayward Hill on the morning of July 28th. After hearing the evidence of the widow, who found the remains and Dr. Nielsen, who performed the autopsy, a verdict of hemorrhage of the brain was rendered as the cause of death. The widow testified that the deceased retired about 11:30 saying he was feeling fine. It is also claimed that Mr. Roberson played an hour or so on the piano the evening before he died, rendering all kinds of high class selections, such as opera music, etc. He had never imparted to his family before that he even knew the notes. The Oakland Tribune, Monday, July 31, 1911 R0BERS0N FUNERAL HELD YESTERDAY HAYWARD, July 31. The funeral of T. H. Roberson, who was found dead in his work shop last Thursday by his sister-in-law, Mrs. L. M. Alders, was held yesterday afternoon from the Sorensen undertaking parlors In the presence of decedent's immediate family and a number of friends. Rev. Phelps, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated. Interment was at Lone Tree cemetery.
