Korber of Pawnee City, died Saturday, October 21, at the age of 79 years and six days. She leaves one sister, Mrs. Bertha Bohm of DuBois, Nebr. and six children: three sons, Frederick, Jesse and Edward of Pawnee City, and three daughters, Sofia Dunn of Formosa, Kansas, Minnie Wissler of Seneca and Alvina Katz of Centralia.; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; one niece and three nephews and many friends. Two children, Willis and Lillie, preceded their mother in death. On October 15, 1860, Theresa Charlotte Caroline was born to August and Freda Poppe in Gustenine, Pommerland, Germany. Theresa was baptized and confirmed in her native land, and after coming to America at the age of 19 with her father, sister and brother-in-law, she became a member of the Evangelical church south of DuBois. Soon after landing in America she found employment in the home of Jacob Fliesh and later worked in Seneca. On October 28, 1881, she was united in marriage to Henry Frederick Korber in the old rock church on the Fred Korber farm located on the Nemaha river. For five years after their marriage they lived on a homestead southwest of DuBois. Then they moved to Pawnee City and ran a meat market until DuBois started to build up, when they moved to that town and opened the first meat market, which they operated successfully for several years. This period of Mrs. Korber's life was especially busy as she not only kept house and took care of the family, but assumed most of the responsibility of managing the meat market so Mr. Korber could travel over the country operating a meat wagon and deal in the cattle business. In the spring of 1897 they moved back to the farm where they lived until Mr. Korber passed away on January 27, 1916. The family remained on the farm until 1921, when they moved nearer Pawnee to reside until 1929 after which Mrs. Korber, with her youngest son, Edward, moved to Pawnee to spend the remainder of her life. Her home was a place of refinement and hospitality where relatives and friends were always welcome. She was a devoted and loving mother. The funeral was held at Friedens Evangelical church on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by the Rev. O. J. Krueger, former Friedens pastor, now at Alma. Burial was at the Friedens cemetery. Pallbearers were her six grandsons: Lyle Katz, Ivan Wissler, George Wissler, LaVern Dunn, Lyle Korber and William Scheideggar.
