Mrs. Theresa Erbele, Mercer County's oldest resident, died Mon. morning Jul 31 at the age of 99 years, 8 months. She had been making her home with a daughter, Mrs. Gottlieb Sailer in Hazen. Born in South Russia on Nov. 30, 1867, she was the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Reibert) Laubenstein. She married Jacob Erbele in South Russia Nov. 28, 1888 and the couple came to the United States in 1893, settling first at Portland, OR. They moved to North Dakota in 1895 and farmed in the Krem area. Mr. Erbele died in 1938. She is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Julius (Pauline) Ganske, and Mrs. Gottlieb (Emma) Sailer both of Hazen and Mrs. Vern (Marie) Clinkenbeard, San Jose, CA; two sons, Bill, Redwood, CA and Herbert, Tacoma, WA; 27 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Four sons, Jake, John, Andrew and Emil, preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Fri. Aug. 4 at 2 p.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Hazen with David Genter officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Cemetery, Krem. Six grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Aarthun Funeral Home of Hazen has charge of arrangements. Theresa's known siblings were Salomon who married Jacobine Glaessmann; George Jacob Jr.; Pauline; Friedrich and Johannes who married Elisabeth Ruckhaber. All of Theresa's siblings were born at Brienne/ Bessarabia, South Russia. The only known sibling of Theresa who came to North Dakota was Johannes who died at Golden Valley in 1946.
