Hays, 72, a life-long resident of Emmitsburg, died Wednesday night at his home after an illness of several days. The deceased,a son of the late James T. and Sarah (Witherow) Hays, was engaged during his entire life in the plumbing and heating business at Emmitsburg, operating under the name of J. T. Hays and Son. The business underthat name has been in operation more than 75 years. Surviving are the following: Minnie E. Hays, his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Laurean Warner, of Blue Ridge Summit; the following sons: James T., Samuel C., John R. and Harry W., all of Emmitsburg, and William E., Waltham, Massachusetts, and the following sisters: Mrs. Edward Snively, of Greencastle, and Mrs. Basil C. Gilson, Emmitsburg. Funeral services Saturday morning at 10 o'clock in the Presbyterian Church, Emmitsburg. The Rev.John T. Chase, of New Windsor, Maryland, a former pastor of the deceased, will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Lewis Higbee, pastor of the Emmitsburg Reformed Church." Was One Of Community's Best Known Men. Thomas C. Hays, a life-long and highly respected citizen of Emmitsburg, died at 10 o'clock Wednesday night at his home in that place, following an illness of several days. He was aged 72 years. Mr. Hays was a son of the late James T. and Sarah Witherow Hays, and had engaged in the life occupation of plumbing and heating, operating under the name of James T. Hays and Son, a business which has existed for the past seventy-five years. He was a life-long Republican and took and active interest in political affairs. He was well-known in Frederick County, possessing a wide circle of friends. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Minnie E. Hays; a daughter, Mrs. Laurean Warner, Blue Ridge Summit;five sons, James T., Samuel C., John R. and Harry W. Hays, all of Emmitsburg, and William E. Hays, Waltham, Mass., and two sisters, Mrs. Edward Snively, Greencastle, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Basil Gilson, Emmitsburg. Funeral Saturday morning at ten o'clock from the Emmitsburg Presbyterian Church, with services conducted by Rev. John T. Chase, New Windsor, aformer pastor, assisted by Rev. E. L. Higbee, of the Emmitsburg Reformed Church. Pallbearers will be D. F. Roddy, E. S. Ohler, Harry Weant, W. O. Shank, John Horner, William Sellers, M. F. Shuff, Sr., and Frank Rowe. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery, Emmitsburg. M. F. Shuff, Jr., funeral director."
