Thomas was born on January 3, 1937, the son of Frank and Iva (Hooker) Vogel in Montrose, South Dakota. He married the love of his life, Ione Reese on December 30, 1961. They were blessed with six children, Tom, Robert, Jozef, Ann, Amy, and Julie. Tom was a certified public accountant in Vermillion for 40 years. He served as a commissioner for Vermillion Clay County for over 20 years, and he was a Catholic Deacon at St. Agnes Catholic Church for over 15 years. In his spare time, he loved reading history. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved working on his acreage north of Meckling. Survivors include his loving wife, Ione of Vermillion; his children, Tom (Marta) of Spring Hill, TN, Jozef of Vermillion, Robert of New Brighten, MN, Ann (Jason) Wittgraf of Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren; two brothers, Paul, and Gordon Vogel; one sister Eldora Weber, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
