(in Red Bank Township that later became Clarion Township according to American Guthrie) He probably attended the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church south of Strattanville near what is now I-80. He was married June 20, 1838, to Elizabeth Lusk, who was born June 7, 1819 in Pittsburg, Allegheny County, PA. He left his father's home and moved south approximately 60 miles, to a location near Greensburg in the same county, Westmoreland, where his grandfather William had farmed at Derry, who had passed away earlier in 1807. He was 24 and his wife was 19 when they were married in, I believe, Allegheny City just northwest across the river from Pittsburgh. By 1840 they were located in or near the Greensburg Borough supporting the family with a saddle/harness shop near the courthouse. They eventually settled on a farm, probably rented, near Greensburg, in Hempfield Twp., Westmoreland County, PA. It was there that several of their children were born but not exclusively. At least one was born back in Elizabeth's hometown of Allegheny City where her parents lived. (They would have farmed near Greensburg for several years before the move to Iowa and apparently lived on several rented farms.) They moved to Iowa where they first lived at Hartwick for four years. Hartwick went extinct and lies at the bottom of Lake Delhi. They bought farmland in SE 1/4,Section 8 Hazel Green Township in 1860 and 1865 and lived there until 1872-3. In 1865 they were among the founders of what evolved to become the Golden Congregational church near Ryan, Iowa. Then they homesteaded in Highland or White Mound Township, Jewell County, Kansas. Thomas Guthrie died December 21, 1884 in the small town of Salem, Jewell Co. Kansas where he had retired a year earlier. (About 40 miles south of Hastings, NE) Elizabeth Lusk Guthrie b. Jan 7, 1819, died April, 1901, Smith Co. KS at the age of 82 (first county west of Jewell Co., KS) She was the d/o John Lusk Jr. of Pittsburg. She was believed to be living with her son, Albert Guthrie, at the time of her death. Although I haven't ruled out that she was living with Thomas Lusk Guthrie Thomas was buried at the Providence Cemetery 4 miles north and 1.5 miles east of Esbon, Kansas.
