Nov 27, 1987 - Carroll Times Herald - Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll for Thomas J. Finegan, 89, of Carroll. He died Thursday, Nov. 26 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following an extended illness. The Rev. Mervin Hood will celebrate the Mass. Lector will be Deacon Robert S. Bruner. Gift bearers will be Helen Wieland and Charles Finegan. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Casket bearers will be Barry Bruner, Neil Trobak, Ray Middendorf, Art Hulsing, Wilbur Reinhart and Robert Mosher. Visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Rosary will be recited today at 3 and 8 p.m., the latter by Holy Spirit Parish. Born Aug. 6. 1898, at Graettinger, he was a son of Owen and Katherine (Duffy) Finegan. He grew up in the Fonda and Varina areas and attended school in those communities. He came to Carroll in 1921. On Nov. 17, 1938, he was married to Irma Kennebeck in Salix, by the Rev. Joseph T. Finegan. Following their marriage the couple resided in Carroll. Mr. Finegan served as Carroll County sheriff from 1940 to 1946 and then was employed in the advertising department at KCIM Radio station in Carroll until his retirement. He had been a resident at Carroll Manor Nursing Home since November 1981. He was a member of Holy Spirit Parish in Carroll. Mr. Finegan is survived by one brother, Pat Finegan, of Fort Dodge; a brother-in-law, M.E. Kennebeck, of San Antonio, Texas; a sister-in-law, Laura Finegan, of Carroll; two nephews, Charles Finegan of Fort Dodge and Merle Finegan of Carroll; and three nieces, Mrs. James (Helen) Wieland of Carroll, Mrs. A.J. (Alice) Kelly of Lake View and Mrs. Neil (Carolyn Jo) Sokolowski of Marshfield, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Irma, in 1981; four brothers, John, Bill, Joe and Frank Finegan; and one sister, Marie Williams.
