STERLING DIED ON TUESDAY PROMINENT WATERMAN HEART ATTACK VICTIM Mr. Thomas James Sterling, one of the community's well known and most highly respected watermen, died of a heart attack at his home on the Johnson Creek Road early Tuesday evening. He had returned from his work and had lain down to rest, and when his wife attempted to arouse him, she found that he was dead. Born Oct. 15th, 1874, the son of the late William Carter and Priscilla Somers Sterling, he was 77 years of age. His forbears were among the pioneer citizens of lower Somerset county, settling in what is now Asbury district, where Mr. Sterling was born and resided all his life. He was a waterman by occupation, an industrious man, honorable and friendly, who had been of real service to neighbors and friends during his lifetime, and who had a large number of friends and acquaintances who sincerely mourn his passing. Mr. Sterling was a staunch churchman, attending services regularly and contributing of his time and his substance to further the work of the church. He had the high regard and deep affection of many people. Funeral services will be held in Asbury Methodist Church this Friday afternoon, Nov. 23rd, at 2.00 o'clock, conducted by his pastor, Rev. Robert E. Green and Rev. Roy L. Tawes of Milford, Del. Interment will be in Sunnyridge Memorial Park. Bearers, all members of the Men's Bible Class of Asbury Sunday School, of which he was a member, will be William Sterling, Charles Sterling, Arthur Sterling, Arthur Hinman, Fred Tyler, Edmund Sterling, Burns Sterling and F. Doyle Tyler. He is survived his widow, Mrs. Manie Lawson Sterling, two daughters, Mrs. Hazel Betts and Mrs. Luther (Lettie) Johnson by a former marriage, four stepchildren, J. Benson Nelson of Empire, La., Vernon Nelson, Mrs. O. L. (Doris) Tawes, Jr., and Mrs. Richard W. (Elva) Christy, one sister, Mrs. Dollie Ashmeade of Baltimore, and two grandchildren, Charles J.
