Read More	Obituary - Grand Valley Star & Vidette - June 22, 1939 THE LATE THOMAS JORDAN On June 4th there passed away in Grand Valley one of the old pioneers in the person of Thomas Jordan, in his 85th year. The late Mr. Jordan was born near Bond Head, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Jordan, who came to Canada from Ireland by sailboat. At the age of three years he came to West Garafraxa Township with his parents and one brother and sister, all of whom made the tedious trip by foot, the jumper being the only means of transportation in those days, it being loaded with the seed and what household effects were needed. He spent his boyhood days on the 4th of Gara before leaving for the lumber woods of Northern Michigan, where are now the cities of Emily City, Bay City, Rosscommon, and the land a State Forest Reserve. Later he was employed with the American Steamship Lines, and from there he joined the Wellington Rifles and from that Battalion to the London Artillery and Rifle School. A few years later he came to Luther and was employed by the late James Graham in the sawmill on the 4th line corner, now owned by Nicholas Stack. In the year 1901 he married Eliza Jane McCune, and resided in Dundalk a few years before coming to Lot 28, Con 4, East Luther, and from there he retired to Grand Valley in May, 1936. He leaves to mourn, his wife, twin sisters, Mrs. A. Prentice, Mrs. A. Howes, of Toronto. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. C. Graham Jones at his home on Cooper Street.
