Special to Republican: Benson, A. T., Oct. 27--T. L. Hafer, master mechanic of the Santa Fee (sic), died at 1:30 this morning. His family resides at Quenemo and his remains will be taken there for interment. He owns a large track of land near Neosho Rapids and was projector of the Santa Rita hotel. His death has cast a gloom over the entire community. ******************************** The Arizona Daily Star, Tuscon, AZ, 2 Oct 1885 Thos. L. Hafer, master mechanic of the A. & N. M. M. R. shops at Benson, died of Marlaria Fever at that place Tuesday morning. ******************************** The Citizen, Topeka, KS, 29 Oct 1885, Thursday Thomas L. Hafer, formerly an engineer on the A. T. & S. F. Railroad, and a resident of this city, died suddenly at Benson, A. T., on the 27th inst. His remains will be taken to Emporia for burial. The funeral will probably occur Saturday and will be attended by members of Topeka commandery No. 5, Knights Templar.
