Thomas M. Smithson married Hannah Clevenger July 7, 1838 in Randolph Co., Indiana where they lived for several years then moved to Linn twp., Iowa prior to 1870. Hannah died in 1886 and Thomas then lived with his children. In 1895 he was living with his son John Ceberry Smithson.
