Description	:	Thomas was the infant son of Thomas G. and Alpharetta Johnson Pitchford. The Pitchford family suffered from a measles outbreak in 1880. Thomas Sr had measles (though his actual cause of death was pneumonia, which he likely developed during his bout with measles). He died in Apr 1880, about two months before the census (probably very close to the time when baby Thomas was born, in fact). Alpharetta died of measles one month later, in May 1880. He died in Apr 1880, about two months before the census (probably very close to the time when baby Thomas was born, in fact). Alpharetta died of measles one month later, in May 1880. I don't know exactly when baby Thomas died, but he was two months old and living nearby with some family friends in 1880 and is listed as disabled with measles on the census. He probably died not long after the census was taken in June, as he is nowhere to be found after 1880. There is no stone identifying his grave in the cemetery, but I'm positive he's there. I suspect there never was a stone...the extended family and family friends most likely did not spend the money to purchase a headstone and have it engraved. My guess is they just buried him in a small grave next to his parents (who'd been buried there only a few months earlier). I suspect the grave was probably only marked with a wooden marker or something that is long gone today.
