He had just returned to the house after bringing the cattle in from the pasture for milking, and feeling tired he laid down for a few minutes rest. Death came quietly and unexpectedly. A well-known farmer in Nance and Polk counties for more than 40 years, he came to this country from Tarnov, Poland, where he was born Dec. 16, 1866, with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Tomasiewicz, when he was eight years old. His father located on a farm near Duncan, and after Thomas grew to manhood he left his paternal home to travel in the west and seek his fortune. He worked in mines throughout the west, worked for different railroads on construction work, and held various other jobs. In 1897 he returned to Nebraska, bought a farm in Nance county near Genoa, and settled down there. The following year, Nov. 23, 1898, he married Miss Julia Iwan, whose home was in the Pilsno community, Polk county, south of Duncan. They stayed on the farm near Genoa until March, 1910, when he bought the farm where he was living at the time of his death, and moved his family there. During the world war he played an active part in liberty loan drives at Genoa. Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Misses Mary and Anna, at home, Mrs. Albin Prososki of Osceola, and Mrs. James Sellars of DuBios, Pa., who came for the funeral; three sons, Joe of Silver Creek, Louis at home, and Tony of Columbus; four grandchildren; one half brother, John Tomasiewicz of Genoa, and one half sister, Ven. Sr. M. Germana of Duncan. A son who died in infancy, and another son, Frank, who died July 4, 1933, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Monday morning, the body being brought from home to St. Lawrence church in Silver Creek where a large number of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last respects. Interment was at the St. Lawrence cemetery two miles west of Silver Creek, the burial service being conducted by Rev. Fr. Leaby. Silver Creek Sand, May 6, 1938
