Memorials to the family. ---------------------------------- From contributor #47078678; Thomas William Hofferber was born to Donald William Hofferber and Lillie Ann (Horst) Hofferber on November 21, 1952, at York and passed away May 21, 2006 at Geneva at his residence at the age of 53 years and six months. He was one of two children in the family. Tom was baptized at St. Mark's Lutheran Church as a child, and was a member of the Geneva United Methodist Church. Tome attended Geneva Public Schools, graduating in 1971. While in high school, he enjoyed being in the school plays and his sense of humor complimented his talent in the plays. After high school, Tom attended UNL and was a member of Theta Xi Fraternity. After attending UNL, he attended Milford Community College. Tom was married to Melinda Manning on January 10, 1979. Tom adopted Melinda's daughter, Lisa Suzanne. Throughout his early working years, Tom had a farming partnership with his father, Don. After his dad's death in 1995, Tom continued the farming and cattle feeding business until moving to Colorado in 2002. In 2003, Tom started his own lawn business, allowing him to get back to his roots of farming. You could say that Tom flew around by the seat of his pants, so it wasn't a surprise when he took up flying at the age of 19 years old. He enjoyed flying and taking his friends and family on different flying adventures. It was while living in Colorado that Tom learned to fly in the mountains. In his younger days, Tom even took up the hobby of skydiving and was known to drop in on different places throughout the county! Tom was rarely ever seen without a cap on, and throughout his life, he collected many caps, growing his collection to over a 100 caps. Tom enjoyed attending UNL football games, fishing, boating, water and snow skiing, camping, hiking, trips with his family, and hunting. Tom would often share his wild game with the rest of his family during holidays, showcasing his talent for cooking. Tom also was very skilled and knowledgeable of electronics, and he loved working with computers. It was also quite common for Tom to play practical jokes and pranks on family and friends, whenever he was given the chance. The proudest moment in Toms life was when his grandkids, Hayden and Henry were born. In March of 2006, Tom moved back to Fairmont and lived with his mom until his death. Although Toms life on this earth was short, it was filled with things that brought him joy, happiness, and love. Tom was a very determined man who had a great sense of humor and the people who knew tom knew his caring and loving kindheartedness. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Donald; grandparents, Bill and Helen Hofferber and John and Marie Horst. He is survived by his mother, Lillie Ann Hofferber; sister Pat Andrews and husband, Brett and their daughters, Heather and Keela; former wife, Melinda Hofferber; a daughter Lisa Smith and husband, David and their sons, Henry and Hayden; and former mother and father-in-law, Tom and Marilyn Manning. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva on Wednesday, May 24, with Pastor Ron Harris officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Maria Manning, who sang The Lords Prayer and On Eagles Wings. She also accompanied the congregation in singing The Old Rugged Cross. Pallbearers were Daryl Meyer, David Besse, Robert Rutan, Jim Lovegrove, Paul Bettger and Tom Novak. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal June 2006
