Ringgold, a layman of the Cabot Methodist Church, whose death occurred, March 8, 1952, reached the ripe age of 87. His last years were not years of "sorrow" but, indeed, were crowned with glory earned by living a rich full life devoted to his fellowman and God. Mr. Ringgold was born at Centralia, Ill., October 28, 1864 but came to Pulaski County, when he was about a year old, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wyatt Ringgold.* He is survived by his widow and two sisters; Mrs. Emma Brannen and Mrs. Price Shoffner, both of Little Rock. He enjoyed an active life through his earning period which enabled him to retire when the infirmities of age of age crept upon him. These last years were his best and happiest. As he often remarked, "I can find time to really LIVE." These years he devoted to making his home comfortable and the grounds a beautiful place in which to live -- for himself and his wife; a place where both young and old, stranger and friend were made to feel welcome. The contagious smile that greeted each guest was carried away in a warmed heart with the thought of "It is good to mingle with those who love the Lord." Having come from a Christian home with his earliest memories influenced by those spent at the family alter, he grew up in the church of which he became a member in his early youth. He willingly accepted and efficiently performed all duties ministering unto its service. These duties included almost every responsibility given to a layman. At his death he was an honorary member of the board of stewards and the president of the Men's Sunday School Class of the Cabot Methodist Church. In earlier years he was especially interested in a group of teen-age boys, whom he taught in Sunday School and served them as scout master. He was connected with all civic betterments and was actively engaged in solving the many problems that confront a growing town. Although advanced in years, Mr. Ringgold enjoyed a moderately active life up until he suffered a paralytic stroke three weeks before his death and was unable to talk for that period of time. But until his last moments, he greeted his friends and loved ones with a radiant smile. He truly "..carried the radiance of his soul in his face and let the world have the benefit of it; and his smiles were scattered like sunbeams." Let us not think of Mr. Ringgold as dead but rather believe as Plutarch has said: "I account death a truly great and accomplished good thing; the soul being there to live a real life which here lives not a waking life but suffers things most resembling dreams." ----- Mary B.
