Canfield, familiarly known as "Doc", died at his home, 101 South Davis Street, Sunday at 12:25 p.m., at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 7 days. He was born in Indiana and served with Company K, 142nd., Indiana infantry in the Civil War. "Besides his widow, Almira, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E.E. Wilkins of Ottumwa, Mrs. C.A. Huffman of Fairfield, one son, Jesse Canfield of Ottumwa; two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Johnson of Ottumwa and Mrs. W.F. Clark of Marshalltown; four brothers, C.M. of Ottumwa, Clark of Dayton, O., Thomas of Edward, Mo. and William of Aurora, Ill; and three grandchildren. "The funeral will be conducted from the residence at 2:15 p.m. and from the Willard Street M.E. Church at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. The pallbearers will be from King Camp, Sons of Veterans and military honors will be accorded by the Joseph Hays Post, Spanish-American war veterans and Pauline Cushman of Tent No. 4, Daughters of Veterans will give the flag service at the church. Interment will be made in the Ottumwa cemetery."
