Tory Michael Johannsen was born April 10, 1970 in Ida Grove, Iowa the son of Roger L. and Edna Mae (Kastner) Johannsen. On May 24, 1970 he was baptized at Immanual Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa and later confirmed on April 15, 1984 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa. Growing up, he attended school at Odebolt Arthur Community School where he graduated with the class of 1988. Following high school graduation, he attended Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City, Iowa where he graduated in 1991. Tory worked for IBP as a hog buyer for many years where he met the love of his life, Joni Franzmeier, who at the time was working in the Storm Lake IBP office. On August 8, 1992, they were united in marriage at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with four children: Chandler, Chance, Berkley, and Brogan. Tory was a member of the Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. He also was very involved in Pheasants Forever and the Iowa Pork Producers Association. Tory was an irreplaceable part of the Nutra Tech family for more than 15 years. He was a valuable business partner, a loyal employee, and most of all a treasured friend. Tory looked out for the underdog and always went to bat for others when times were tough. The mark he left on the company will never be forgotten. The gap he leaves in their hearts will never be filled. Family was a very important aspect of his life where his wife, Joni, was his best friend and number one supporter. Spending time with their children meant the world to him. He thoroughly enjoyed attending any of his children's activities, as he was their number one fan. Tory was an avid Iowa State fan and enjoyed attending football games with his daughter, Chandler. Tory loved the outdoors especially, hunting and snowmobiling with his son, Chance. He could fix anything and loved spending time in his shop where he often heard little giggles from his two littler helpers, Berkley and Brogan. A favorite pastime of his was landscaping where he treasured having his entire family around to help out. Tory will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, dedicated son, fun-loving uncle, and friend. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Joni Johannsen of Storm Lake, Iowa; his four children: Chandler, Chance, Berkley and Brogan all of Storm Lake, Iowa; parents, Roger and Edna Mae Johannsen of Ida Grove, Iowa; sisters: Terri (Kevin) Carstensen of Odebolt, Iowa; Trudi (Mark) Gronemeyer of Wichita, Kansas; Trenda (Bob) Magee of Helena, Montana; brother-in-law, Michael (Beth) Franzmeier of Rembrandt, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lori (Curt) Apgar of Washington, Illinois; parents-in-law, Myron and Dorothy Franzmeier of Storm Lake, Iowa; nieces and nephews: Distie (Seth) Profit of London, England; Charise (Rory) Flynn of San Francisco, California; Durel (Kasey Jo) Carstensen of Arvada, Colorado; Kari Gronemeyer of Boston, Massachusetts; Pat Gronemeyer of Wichita, Kansas; Cole and Emersyn Franzmeier of Rembrandt, Iowa; Jack and Steven Apgar of Washington, Illinois; great nephews: Peyton and Zachary Profit of London, England; Conley and Devon Carstensen of Arvada, Colorado; extended family and many friends.
