Read More	Pioneer Merchant Of Mariner's Section Died At Home On Thursday Ulysses Grant McCready Passed Away Of Pneumonia FUNERAL FROM LATE HOME LAST SUNDAY Ulysses Grant McCready, a pioneer merchant of the Mariner's section, died at his home on the State road, near Crisfield, Thursday night, of pneumonia. He was 76 years of age. Mr. McCready had suffered a paralytic stroke several days before his death, then pneumonia developed, causing his death Thursday. Born October 14th, 1863, he was a son of the late Thomas McCready and Pattie Ann Nelson, and a cousin of the late Edward W. McCready, in whose memory the McCready Memorial Hospital, in Crisfield, was built and dedicated. For nearly as many years as the older inhabitants can remember, Mr. Lys McCready kept store, and was still engaged in the mercantile business at the time he died. In his younger days his store was the gathering place for the residents of the Mariner's community and for farmers round about, and about every question affecting the county, state, and nation, was discussed. When the days began to shorten in the Fall, and the weather got cool, the old barrel stove in the store was the center of attraction for the men of the neighborhood, and it was in places such as this the first open forums for the discussion of all subjects came into being. Religion and politics were the most important subjects, and often rather acrimonious debates resulted; but no matter what was the result of the discussion, the next evening saw the same people gathered together for another "go" at what ailed the Nation. A man of sterling integrity, Mr. McCready enjoyed the confidence and respect of a host of friends and acquaintances. He was content to enjoy the substantial things of life, holding that the love of his fellowmen and the catering to their daily needs was ample reward for the efforts extended in their behalf. When a young man he married Miss Frances Rayfield, thus uniting two old and prominent Somerset families, whose forbears were among the early settlers and large land-owners in the lower part of the county, and of this union were born and reared a family of fine children. Mr. McCready could rightly be termed an old-fashioned man, a believer in and a practicer of truth and honesty, of fair dealing, and of independence of thought and action. He will he greatly missed by scores of friends and acquaintances. His funeral services were held at his late home Sunday afternoon, where the attendance and the many beautiful floral remembrances testified to the high regard in which he was held. Rev. W. C. Mumford, pastor of Mariner's M. P. Church, officiated. The body was laid to rest in the new Sunnyridge Memorial Park Cemetery, near Hopewell. The pall bearers were Jessie Evans, Will Sterling, Edgar McCready, Weldon McCready, Lloyd McCready and Thomas Coulbourne. Mr. McCready is survived by his widow, three daughters, Miss Dora McCready and Mrs. Alonza T. Sterling, of Crisfield, and Mrs. Charles Borgman, of Tampa, Florida, and one son, County Commissioner Walter G. McCready, of Crisfield.
