WAS BEFORE LOCAL COURT RECENTLY Franklin county attorneys who knew him well heard with regret yesterday of the death of Prosecuting Attorney U. S. G. Pitzer, at Martinsburg W. Va. Mr. Pitzer was one of Berkeley county's most prominent and influential citizens and died of typhoid fever, with which he had been sick for about six weeks. The deceased was 38 years old and in the very prime and vigor of life. He had for the past ten years been prosecuting attorney for Berkeley county, and on several occasions received the largest majority ever given anyone in the county. In 1898 he was a candidate for the Republican nomination for Congress, opposing Hon. A. G. Dayton, but was defeated by a small majority in the convention. He was an active leader in State politics, and stumped the State on several occasions in the interest of his party. Being a very pleasing speaker he was always in demand by his party in its conventions and on the stump, and thus became one of the best known men in the State. He is survived by a widow who was Miss Katherine Warner, of Cincinnati.
