Frederick Herman DOLL 1885-1955 Obituary from the Larned Chrososcope (Larned, Kansas) Death of Valentine Doll Valentine Doll, one of the oldest residents of Pawnee County, died at his home seven miles southwest of Larned, on Tuesday, October 20th, of heart failure, aged 64 years, 2 months and 11 days. The funeral services were held at him home on Thursday, being in charge of Larned Lodge No. 129, I.O.O.F., Rev. Hestwood officiating. The body was buried in the Larned cemetery. The cause of Mr. Doll's death was heart failure, brought on by fighting fire. On Tuesday, accompanied by his son Ed, he was engaged in burning wheat stubble, and in some manner the fire got away from them, and it was only by hard work that they succeeded in checking the flames. After the fire they proceeded to walk toward the house. They had gone only a short distance when Mr. Doll suddenly fell over and expired before help could reach him. Valentine Doll was born in Bavaria, Germany, August 28th, 1891, where he was educated in Germany schools. After leaving school he learned the stone mason trade. In 1866 he came to this country and located at Massillon, Ohio, where for several years he was a successful contractor. In 1868 he was married to Miss Caroline Fetzer, and of this union nine children were born, seven of whom are living and residents of Pawnee county. His health failing he came to this county in 1878 and engaged in farming, at the time of this death was one of our most practical and successful farmers. There probably never lived a man in Pawnee county who was held in higher esteem that was Mr. Doll by his neighbors and friends. Strictly honest in all his dealings and ever ready to assist a friend in distress his death will be mourned by all the community.
