Description	:	Valentine "Val" George Kraft, 84, of Piedmont, died on Fri., January 11, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Valentine was born on April 2, 1928 to Peter and Rosena (Sahli) Kraft in Trail City. He grew up on a farm there and married Ruth Holwegner on May 24, 1949. He worked construction for Myrl Clark Const. of Yankton, SD from 1949-1963, running pieces of equipment. He moved all over S.D. and lived beside (and in) gravel pits. Read More	Valentine "Val" George Kraft, 84, of Piedmont, died on Fri., January 11, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Valentine was born on April 2, 1928 to Peter and Rosena (Sahli) Kraft in Trail City. He grew up on a farm there and married Ruth Holwegner on May 24, 1949. He worked construction for Myrl Clark Const. of Yankton, SD from 1949-1963, running pieces of equipment. He moved all over S.D. and lived beside (and in) gravel pits. In 1963 Valentine bought the Shady Lane Drive Inn with car hops, which his wife and 2 boys operated. He continued to work construction until 1970. At that time, he bought the Coast to Coast Hardware in McLaughlin, S.D. He was also a shoe repair cobbler, repaired small appliances, fixed windows, lawn mowers, and bicycles. From 1964-2000 he owned a fire cracker business in McLaughlin. His boys, Dan and Jerry, and granddaughter, Jody, ran the business. He was also a Barber Transportation delivery man for that area. In 1975 the Coast to Coast was changed to Kraft Hardware and he ran it for 31 years before selling in 2001. He moved to Piedmont and co-owned Kraft Hardware with his son for nine years. Valentine had a sense of humor with his grandkids, Doctors and nurses. He loved visiting with his family and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Kraft, Piedmont; son, Daniel (Janice) Kraft of McLaughlin; one granddaughter, Jody (Todd) Sahli, Aberdeen; two sisters, Mary Dillman, Walker, S.D. and Frances Holzer of Mobridge, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Gerald; grandson, Brent; sisters, Margaret, Eva, Elizabeth, Adeline, Barbara and Agnes; brothers, John, Casper, Roy, Leo, Frank, and Peter. Memorial services are set for 10:00am Fri., Jan. 18, 2013 at Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church with the Rev. Herb Cleveland officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before the service.
