He was married about 1840 to Katherine Odehnal, who was born in 1810 to Joseph and Dorothy Rybysar Odehnal of Nova Ves, Bohemia. On June 20, 1870, their family, with the exception of a daughter, Barbara, arrived in New York from Bremen, Germany on the ship, Republic, and possibly stayed with relatives in Chicago before coming to Tama County. Vit's occupation on the ship passenger's list was shown as a wheelwright. Vit died before 1880 and Katherine sometime between 1880 and 1885, and both are buried in unmarked graves beneath two large evergreens in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Otter Creek Township. After living in America for sometime, many descendants changed the spelling of the last name to Yuska. Their children who were all born in Bela, Bohemia were: Barbara, who immigrated earlier, married Frank Rayman. Anna, born December 31, 1845, remained single and lived with various relatives until her death on December 29, 1925, at the home of a niece, Mrs. Joe Saver. For many years she had made her home with her sister Frances (Mrs. John) Nechanicky, who died in 1906. She was buried in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, Carroll Township. John, born July 25, 1848, was retarded and remained single. He lived with his brothers and sisters before entering the Tama County Poor Farm, where he was general manager of the laundry room and a general chore boy for more than 35 years. He died December 10, 1929 and was buried in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Vencil, sometimes known as James Vencil, was born July 6, 1852 and first settled at Le Grand, Marshall County, where he was employed in a stone quarry. Later, he worked for the Northwestern Railroad out of Marshalltown. On November 23,1878, he was married at Belle Plaine to Mary Novotny, who was born near Sandwich, DeKalb County, Illinois, on March 6,1858, the daughter of Anton and Katherine Novotny. They located on a farm in York Township, Tama County, until 1903 when the family moved to a farm northeast of Traer in Buckingham Township. About 1917, they retired to Traer. Mary died May 30,1926, and a widowed daughter, Clara (Mrs. George) Ludvicek, kept house for Vencil until his death on December 24, 1935. Both were buried in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Their children were Joseph Vencil, born September 4, 1879, and married Anna Kadrmas; Mary Frances, born April 4, 1881, and married Joseph Kubik; William, born July 18,1883, remained single, and died in 1901. James Anton, born June 13, 1885, married Libby Rayman. Charles (Karl), born July 8, 1887, single, died in 1902. Frank, born March 27, 1889, first married Mary Alice Schrier, who died April 23, 1944, and then married Ida Nattger. Edward Louis, born July 17, 1892 married Mayme J. Holubar. Clara, born August 25,1894 married George Ludvicek. Anna Stella, born July 26, 1897, retarded, remained single. Emma, born September 22,1899 married Edward Ludvicek. Frances, born February 12, 1856 married John N. Nechanicky. Joseph F., born June 9, 1859, married Katherine Pokornv in 1882. Katherine was born May 27, 1864 at Bela, Bohemia, the daughter of Joseph and Katherine Fliedrhel (Andrle) Pokorny. About 1867, her family immigrated to Tama County. After their marriage, the couple began farming five miles south of Clutier on a farm they purchased. In 1909 they sold the farm and purchased a farm one and one-half miles southeast of Clutier where they lived until they retired to Clutier on July 1, 1919. Joseph died May 25, 1923, and Katherine died October 12, 1943. Both are buried in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Their children, all born on their first farm were: Anna K, born May 14, 1884, married John A. Parizek; Emil, born February 14, 1896, married Stella Chaska; Joseph Frank, born December 8, 1888, married Frances J. Zmolek, born September 30, 1896; Louis, born January 25, 1892, married Emma Zeman; and Fred M., born June 10, 1894, married Agnes M. Novotny.
