Description	:	Former Deweese resident Velda Marie Watts, 94, went to be with the Lord April 1, 2013, at Rose Brook Care Center in Edgar, NE. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013, at the Clay Center Christian Church with Rev. Stephen W. Deines officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairfield Cemetery South of Fairfield, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 1 p.m. – 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center, NE. Velda Marie (Roush) Watts was born November 23, 1918, to Frank and Clara (Emrich) Roush on a farm northeast of Fairfield, NE. The family later moved to a farm southwest of Fairfield where she spent her childhood years. Velda attended elementary school in a one room school house (Union) and later attended high school and graduated from Fairfield in 1935. After graduation she worked in Hastings where she met her future husband Robert Watts. They were married at her parents' home on April 23, 1938. To this union was born two daughters. Velda and Bob lived their life together for 62 years on the same farm southeast of Deweese, where she continued to live after the death of her husband on April 2, 2000. In January of 2010, due to health reasons she moved to Victorian Inn assisted living at Superior and later to Rose Brook Care Center in Edgar. Velda is remembered by her family and friends as a loving and caring farm wife and mother. She and Bob were avid square dancers. She was member of the Nelson Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron. She attended the Fairfield Presbyterian Church at Fairfield, NE. Music was very important to her as well as sewing. She made many many square dance dresses and matching vests. Her garden and pets brought much joy to her. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Harold Roush and sister-in-law Margaret (Johnson) Roush and nephew Larry Roush. Velda is survived by daughters Marlys (Fred) Jester of Fairfield and Jenelle (Larry) Herman of Omaha. Three grandchildren Lynn (Sussie) Jester of Franklin, NE, Layne (Margaret Sharp) Jester of Knoxville, TN and Robyn (Scot) VonSpreckelsen of Clay Center, NE. Eight great grandchildren Devin (Chris) Johnson of Omaha, April Schecke, Nicole, Levi and Cody Jester and Jesse, Bethany and Samuel VonSpreckelsen, many nieces and nephews, two sister-in-laws Wilma Watts and Inez Watts and a special friend Warren Harms along and a host of many friends.
