Read More	HOFFERBER, VELMA CORDELIA—Velma Cordelia Hofferber was born on April 30, 1098, to David Jand Butterbaugh and Cora M. Miller Butterbaugh at North Manchester, Ind. She died on November 29, 1985, at Geneva at the age of 77 years 7 months and 19 days. After spending her early childhood in North Manchester, Velma moved to Geneva with her mother and brother following the death of her father. She graduated from the Geneva public high school in 1926. After graduation she taught for several years at rural District 45, before attending McPherson College in McPherson, Kas. This was the beginning of a career which spanned approximately 25 years and two generations of grateful students. On June 10, 1936, she married Barthold Hofferber of Geneva. Hey made their home on various farms east of Geneva, until moving to town in 1968. This marriage lasted 46 years, until Barthold’s death in 1982. “Bat” and Velma had two children, Carolyn and James. Over the years, Velma, was active in county Extension work, OK Kensington, Geneva Women’s Club, and various community volunteer services. Velma was baptized into the church of the Brethren. She joined the Geneva United Methodist church on October 23, 1949. She served the church in many capacities. These included numerous positions in the church school, the United Methodist Women’s organization, and the Administrative Board and as church librarian. Velma remained active in many areas of the church life until shortly before her death. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Bat. She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn Borland of Cambridge; by a son, James of Bartlesville, Okla.; one brother, Darrel Butterbaugh of Pompano Beach, Fl.; four grandchildren, Christopher, Brian, Gregory and Bradley Borland; and many other relatives and friends. Services were held at the United Methodist church on December 3, 1985, with the Rev. Donald Marsh officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Norval Lomax, who accompanied Delwin Myers and Mark Hecox. Pallbearers were Loren Hofferber, Charles Miller, Lowell Heath, Steven Heath, Ronald Tatro and Max Dowdy. Interment was in the Geneva public cemetery. The Nebraska Signal December 5 1985 page 9.
