Velma Lorraine Nelson was born on March 27, 1923, in Harcourt, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Emma (Wassgren) Nelson. Velma graduated with the Harcourt High School class of 1941. She was united in marriage to David C. Kling on November 27, 1953, at the Lutheran Church in Harcourt. She worked as a telephone operator in Harcourt for many years. Later, she operated a home bakery and delivery service and was well known for her angel food cakes, orange rolls and rye bread. She also worked as a waitress in several local restaurants in Harcourt, Dayton and Gowrie. Velma belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside where she was active in the W.E.L.C.A. and Friendship Circle. She enjoyed music, baking and hosting parties. She is survived by her husband, David C. Kling of Harcourt, Iowa; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Deborah Kling of Muscatine, Iowa; two grandchildren, Amy and Brian; a sister, Grace Olson of San Diego, California; a brother, Roger and his wife Betty Nelson of Thousand Oaks, California; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Harold and Lloyd; and three sisters, Leila Wassgren, Irma Alexander and Jeanette Larson. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Burnside.
