WERLING, 86, DIES; RITES TO BE HELD FRIDAY Widow of Andrew A. Werling, Mrs. Velma M. Werling, 86, of rural Ossian died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday at Caylor-Nickel Medical Center. A native of Monroeville, she was born Feb. 8, 1907 to John and Mary Jackemeyer Hoffman. Her marriage to Mr. Werling, who died July 3, 1988, took place Jan. 1, 1936 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Allen County. Mrs. Werling, a resident of the Ossian area 57 years, was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. A marketer in Fort Wayne since 1951, when she started selling homemade bread, pies, noodles and other items at the Barr Street Market, she moved to the South Side Market in 1957 and was still working until a few months ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Dale (Virginia) Fry of Fort Wayne; three sons, Ervin Werling of Ossian, Amos Werling and Calvin Werling, both of Fort Wayne, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Nicholas Hoffman, John Hoffman and Arthur Hoffman, all of Monroeville, and two sisters, Mrs. Linda Selking of Monroeville and Mrs. Elmer (Olga) Hartman of New Haven, also survive. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Elzey and Haggard Funeral Home in Ossian. The body will lie in state one hour before the services at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Rev. William R. Brege will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mrs. Werling's church or Worship for Shut-ins. Bluffton News-Banner Wed. June 30, 1993
