Description	:	Velta Davies, 86, of Baxter, went home to be with her Lord peacefully on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be on Friday, September 28, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Heritage Word of Life Assembly of God , 102 2nd Street, Mitchellville, IA. Pastor David Rex will be officiating. A private family burial will take place at Restland Cemetery in Baxter. Velta was born on October 13, 1925 to William and Lula (Russell) Hopkins in Malcom, Iowa. She attended school in Malcom and following school Velta worked in Newton helping the World War ll effort. After the war was over she met and married Raymond Davies. The young couple resided in Newton until 1960 when the family relocated to Baxter. Velta was a member of Newton's Assembly of God, Heritage Word of Life Assembly of God, and Mingo's Women's Auxiliary Legion. Those left to cherish Velta's loving memories are her children, Cynthia "Cindy" (J.R.) Dethrow of Baxter, Wanda (John) Eatwell of Mingo, Harold (Connie) Davies of Ira, and Linda (Rob) Cowan of Chariton; her sisters, Vela (Max) Bucklin, and Betty (Myron) Rhone; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Velta was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kenneth Hopkins, son-in-law Daryl Flora, grandson Chad Flora, and grandson-in-law Sean McGill.
