Mrs. Johnson was born December 20, 1921, in Georgetown, a daughter of the late William Alpheus Porter and the late Emma Blanche Mercer Porter. She grew up in the Oak Grove Community of Georgetown County. She graduated from Andrews High School in 1938. She was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and attended Johnson Chapel Baptist Church for many years. She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; a brother, W. David Porter; and two sisters, Kathryn P. Johnson and Juanita P. Gordon. She was survived by two sons, Mark Johnson (Janet) of Georgetown and Rhett Johnson (Kathy) of Andalusia, Alabama; two daughters, Debby Summey of Georgetown and Dutchin Braisted of Charleston; a sister, Arline P. Cribb of Pawleys Island; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services were Sunday, January 17, 2016, in Johnson Chapel Baptist Church. The Rev. Stephen P. Candal officiated. Burial by Mayer Funeral Home followed in the churchyard.
