Vera (Herlyn) Friese was born on a farm near Marion, SD, on 03 NOV 1917, a daughter of Henry Herlyn and Gertie Ackermann. She attended rural school and grew to womanhood there. On 08 DEC 1938, she was united in marriage to Peter W. Friese at Sandham Reformed Church in Monroe, SD. Following their marriage, the couple farmed northeast of Parker until 1948, when they moved to their farm northwest of Lennox. They farmed there until retiring and moving into Lennox. She was then employed by Dakota Industries, D. W. Anderson Construction, and as a school bus driver for the Lennox School District. Her husband preceded her in death on 16 DEC 1993, thus ending a marriage partnership of over 55 years. Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Donna Friese, on 23 NOV 1998; her sisters and brothers: Mae Schmidt, Herry Herlyn, Etta Friese, Florence Noordsy, Lloyd Herlyn, Luverne Herlyn, and Edith Albrecht. She was the last living member of the Henry and Gertie Herlyn family. Survivors include her two sons: Gene Friese of Sturgis, SD, and Wade Friese of Lennox; her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Darryl Williamson of Lennox; five grand children; three great-grandchildren.
