Shore OBITUARY THE CHARITON LEADER Chariton, Iowa Thursday, June 3, 1915 VERA MADONNA JOHNSTON On October 18, 1895, there came into the humble home of J. S. and Hattie Shore Johnston in Pleasant township, Lucas county, Iowa, a blessed mite of humanity in the form of a little girl. Into the same home, where years before the mother was born. The little one was christened Vera Madonna, she who has grown from childhood into young womanhood in our midst, having three years ago, with her mother and sister, removed to Columbia, Ia., where she resided until called by the Angel of Death to the home beyond, on May 27, 1915, being 19 years, 7 months and 9 days of age. Vera completed the eighth grade two years ago and was a member of the graduating class of Columbia at that time. She was possessed of a remarkable unselfish disposition, self sacrificing to a degree unusual in one so young and always ready with willing hands to do something for someone else to make their load lighter, their pathway brighter. She leaves her mother, one brother, Clyde of Canada, one sister, Mona, her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brown, of near Chariton and numerous other relatives and innumerable friends, who deeply sympathize with the relatives in this, their deep bereavement.
