Thornton, 67, Hillsboro died suddenly at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 1973 at the Van Patten residence in Hillsboro where she had been called after the death of Eugene Van Patten. She was born February 19, 1906 at Hillsboro, the daughter of Clifford and Lena Hixson Sanderson. On February 24, 1923 she was married to David A. Thornton at Ottumwa. Thornton, 67, Hillsboro died suddenly at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 1973 at the Van Patten residence in Hillsboro where she had been called after the death of Eugene Van Patten. She was born February 19, 1906 at Hillsboro, the daughter of Clifford and Lena Hixson Sanderson. On February 24, 1923 she was married to David A. Thornton at Ottumwa. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1972. She was employed at the Hillsboro Cafe. She is survived by three sons, Robert Thornton, Lexington, Ky., Jack Thornton, Stockport, Iowa, and Richard Thornton, Ottumwa, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. A daughter Mrs. Vivian Cummings preceded her in death. Funeral services were held from the Betty-Jennings Chapel in Salem on Sunday, September 16, 1973 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. L.H. Smith, pastor of the Hillsboro Baptist church officiating. Interment was in the Hillsboro Cemetery. A memorial to the Heart Fund has been established in memory of Mrs. Thornton. Music was by Mrs. Gordon Watts, organist. Casket bearers were Donald Shelman, M.M. Doan, Jr., M.M.
