Read More	Verle "Keith" Hill, 95 August 6, 1922 ~ July 16, 2018 Keith was born on August 6, 1922 to Herbert and Josephine Hill and grew up in Allen, Nebraska where he resided for most of his life. As a young kid he was raised by his mother after his father passed away when he was eight. The Hill boys were often known as the toughest boys on the South side ~ apparently clod fights and other mischief were involved. He began delivering groceries with his wagon on Saturdays for Ed Truby in Allen when he was 14 years old. In 1939, he began his affiliation with The Cash Store when he went to work for Bill Connell. After graduating from Allen High School in 1940, he ventured out to Washington where he had a job working for Boeing as an Ordinance Airplane mechanic. The job didn't last long because he received his draft papers and, upon returning to Allen, enlisted in the Navy. He served during the War from 1942-1945 as an airplane mechanic. After the War and home again in Allen, he resumed working at the Cash Store. Shortly after that, he met Gail Jones at a basketball game. Sparks flew and they were married on September 18, 1946. Keith and Gail set up home in a tiny house in Allen. They welcomed two children into this home - Janice and Kevin. In 1955, they moved up the hill to the house built by Keith's Dad and where Keith had grown up. Timothy was born soon after. It was a great house on the edge of town, right next to the ball field. For a while, Keith's mother lived next door and Gail's parents lived across the street. Keith and Gail purchased the Cash Store in 1958 and owned it until 1988 when they turned the reins over to Kevin. Keith was active in many activities in Allen ~ Cemetery Board for 37 years where he would mark out graves and oversee the maintenance, often doing much of the mowing, American Legion from 1945-present where he served as Adjutant and Commander, was a Director at the Allen Bank, drove a school bus for about 1 year for the fun of it!, coached Little League for so many years he couldn't remember how many. Practices were held 2-3 nights a week with games every Sunday afternoon. You would often see Keith driving the pickup on the way to a game with a load of kids in the back. In 1982, he was given the Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Allen. Verle Keith Hill, 95, of Allen, NE passed away on Monday, July 16, 2018 at the Wakefield Care Center in Wakefield, NE, where he had been residing for some time. Keith was preceded in death by his wife, of 66 years, Gail; his parents; a sister, Evelyn; and brothers Jim, Wayne, and Ed. He is survived by his daughter, Janice and husband Bob of Tucson, AZ; sons Kevin and Tim of Allen; grandchildren Collin and wife Jaime of Portland, OR, Derek and wife Aya of Chicago, Emily of Elkhart, Kansas, and Adam of Denver; great-grandchildren Adeline, Owen, Eleanor, and Benjamin. Visitation will be held at the United Methodist Church in Allen on Wednesday, July 25 from 5:00-6:30 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 7 pm and interment with military honors immediately after at Eastview Cemetery.
